The range and speed capability of spare tires have typically been limiting. A major design goal of Modern Spare has been to offer spare tires that are more usable during stressful situations.
Range-
Modern Spare does not have a stated range limit for our spare tires. We set a design goal to offer a spare tire that could get you where you needed to go and not a short, limiting 50 miles down the road. Of course, you should never rely on a spare long-term as you would a normal tire but using the spare for 100 or even 200 miles each time you have a failed tire is reasonable.
Speed-
Modern Spare only uses tires with a DOT "M" speed rating. The M rating indicates that the tire is rated and tested to operate at a constant speed of up to 81 mph. However, this does not mean you should drive 81 mph with your spare mounted. In fact, some manufacturers, such as Continental, state that the speed should not exceed 50 MPH despite the official M speed rating. Because of the narrow size of the tire relative to your regular tires, there are expected changes to your vehicle's braking and handling characteristics. Although the tire bears the M speed rating, we suggest you drive with caution and safety in mind when using the spare.
