Range and Speed. How far and how fast can I drive on my Modern Spare?

The range and speed capability of spare tires have typically been limiting. A major design goal of Modern Spare has been to offer spare tires that are more usable during stressful situations.

Range-

Modern Spare does not specify a range limit for our spare tires. We have set a design goal to provide a spare tire capable of getting you where you need to go, rather than just a limiting 50 miles down the road. While you should never depend on a spare for long-term use like a regular tire, using it for 100 or even 200 miles when you have a failed tire is perfectly reasonable.

Speed-

Modern Spare exclusively uses tires with a DOT "M" speed rating. This M rating signifies that the tire is tested and rated to operate at a constant speed of up to 81 mph. However, this does not mean you should drive at 81 mph with your spare mounted. In fact, some manufacturers, like Continental, indicate that the speed should not exceed 50 MPH, despite the official M speed rating.

Due to the narrower size of the tire compared to your regular tires, changes in your vehicle's braking and handling characteristics are to be expected. Although the tire carries the M speed rating, we recommend driving with caution and safety in mind when using the spare.
