My spare tire or spare tire kit came with a ring that is about 3-4" in diameter. What is it for, and what do I do with it?

This ring is an actual component of the spare tire. It is referred to as a hub ring and is typically used (with some exceptions) on vehicles that use lug bolts.

In some cases, the large hole at the center of your spare wheel (often referred to as the center bore) may be larger than the center bore of your factory wheels. The hub ring fits into the back of the spare wheel's center bore, effectively reducing the size of the hole to match that of your factory wheels. Without this ring, installing the spare can become frustrating because the lug holes might not align easily. When you attach the ring to the back of the spare wheel and position the spare against the vehicle's hub, you can align the lug holes by simply rotating the wheel.

Some vehicle models use lug nuts on threaded studs instead of lug bolts. Hub rings are generally not needed for these vehicles. However, we might still include a hub ring with your spare tire. The type of lug nuts used on these models does not properly center the wheel when tightened, and the hub ring will ensure that the wheel is centered on the hub.

Please check the order packing list included with your shipment. This list will detail all the components for your specific vehicle. Be sure to review the list and confirm that each component is included in your order.

If a component such as a hub ring is not listed, it will not be required.
