Please read further for important instructions to ensure proper use of the spare tire.
No doubt, Tesla has designed some of the most advanced drive systems on the market. Ensuring a spare tire is suitable and fully compatible with your Tesla's sophisticated drive train is a key part of our design process.
When installing a spare tire on your Tesla, please follow the instructions carefully as shown here.
Please take note of a key part of the instructions -
When installing a spare tire on your Tesla, use the following traction control settings:
- For all non-performance models, access your traction control settings and select "slip start" mode, and continue in this setting while the spare tire is in use.
- For all Performance and Plaid models, access your traction control settings and select "track mode", and continue in this setting while the spare tire is in use.
This also applies and will enable proper function on models with staggered tire diameters.
Tesla vehicles are sensitive to tire diameters. Modern Spare designs your spare tire to match the diameter of your regular tires closely. With some variation in tire diameter due to wheel and tire selection, as well as common variations in treadwear, following these instructions carefully will ensure a reliable experience with your spare tire.
